The World Cup of Writing: Jorge Valdano

Here's another example of very good writing on the subject of the current World Cup.

Jorge Valdano reached the pinnacle of footballing success in 1986 as part of the World Cup-winning Argentina team, and nowadays he works as a football commentator and writer. His World Cup column in the Guardian includes an excellent article from last Friday, which contains this memorable sentence: 'I love football because it's the opposite of science: contradictory, primitive , emotional.'
