Here's another example of very good writing on the subject of the current World Cup.

Jorge Valdano reached the pinnacle of footballing success in 1986 as part of the World Cup-winning Argentina team, and nowadays he works as a football commentator and writer. His World Cup column in the Guardian includes an excellent article from last Friday, which contains this memorable sentence: 'I love football because it's the opposite of science: contradictory, primitive , emotional.'
