Spot the Mistakes 4: Neymar

Continuing the World Cup theme, this exercise is all about Brazil's star player, Neymar.

Again there are ten sentences in British English, eight of them containing mistakes. Can you spot the errors and correct them? The answers are provided at the end.

Note that two of the ten sentences are completely correct and that no sentence contains more than one error.


1. Neymar has marked two goals so far in this World Cup.

2. His hairstyle changed at least twice since Brazil's first game.

3. He is greatly admired for his fabulous skills but also accused by some of play-acting in order to convince the referee that he has been faulted.

4. Neymar was born in 1992, close to the city of São Paulo.

5. The club he plays for is Paris Saint-Germain, in France.

6. When he joined Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona in August 2017, it was the most expensive transference in football history.

7. Neymar didn't play in Brazil's defeat by Germany in the semi-final of the 2014 World Cup because he got wounded in the previous match.

8. He is such a good player that he is sometimes compared by Pelé.

9. He is without doubts one of the most famous athletes in the world, in any sport.

10. In his arm Neymar has a tattoo of the face of his sister, Rafaella.

Note the grammar in sentence 2: the present perfect tense ('has changed') is used with 'since', in referring to a period of time - the duration of the World Cup - that has not yet ended.
